  • Overview

    The Dietetics Clinical Dietitian is responsible for development and implementation of nutritional plan of care for in/out patients and capable of providing care to all age groups (infants, pediatric, adolescent, adults and geriatrics) that include; performing comprehensive nutritional assessments, making recommendations, decisions and providing individualized care, education and consultation based in part on specific needs and rights and in accordance with physicians order, facility and department policies and procedures, and within specified time frames; demonstrates ability to monitor, follow-up and/or re-assess patient’s needs when necessary, and is involved in community and facility activities/programs as it relates to nutrition; and collaborates with physicians, nursing, social services, pharmacy, hospice & home health, CQI, Infection Control, Dietetics staff and any other disciplines by maintaining and exhibiting a professional status.


    The Dietetics Clinical Dietitian reports directly to Director of Dietetics.



    Provides clinical nutrition services to all in-patients at nutritional risk by performing a nutritional assessment within specified time frame based on department’s policies & procedures by reviewing data collected and with consideration for physician’s written order and patient’s rights and specific needs.


    Develops a re-assessment evaluation and follow-up on all patients at nutritional risk and out patients within specified time frame based on department’s policies & procedures and attending patient team care conferences.


    Provides nutritional counseling education to in/out patients taking into consideration the physician’s written diet order and by providing individualized counseling according to patient’s needs and preferences by; teaching/instructing and inspiring patients to develop healthful lifestyles, modification of eating patterns, following dietary guidelines with regards to patient limitations, abilities, psychosocial needs and desires.


    Provides nutrition and potential food drug interaction information, education and counseling to in/out patients and/or family members or extended care providers and performs community nutrition related seminars using updated nutrition information along with knowledge of new food items on the market.


    Demonstrate ability to accurately calculate nutrient composition and dietetic values of food and computer skills knowledge.


    • Education


    1. Bachelor’s or advanced degree from accredited institution with a major in foods and nutrition.
    2. May have attended a coordinated undergraduate program in Dietetics or completed a Dietetic Internship approved by the American Dietetic Association.


    • Licensure/Certification


          a.) Registered Dietitian and/or Registered Dietitian eligible.


    • Work Experience


          a.)   Prefer at least one year experience in a hospital or extended care facility.
