The Nursing Assistant must have the skill and knowledge to provide population specific care. He/She must have the ability to assist with the collection of data for objective assessment, and to identify the needs and requirements of the patient and report to the charge nurse/team leader. The will act within the scope of practice for Nursing Assistant.
The Nursing Assistant reports directly to charge nurse/team leader.
Keep the patient safe by observing the patient at all times.
Record patient oral intake and urine output/bowel movements on a paper flow sheet, and report to nursing staff so it can be entered into the medical record.
Assist the patient during meals.
Check the patient every hour if they are diapered or incontinent, to see if the patient needs to be changed.
Make sure the patient is turned and repositioned in bed every 2 hours.
If the patient leaves the floor for treatments or diagnostic testing, accompany the patient for the duration of the tests.
