Overview

The staff occupational therapist is responsible for the evaluation of patients; development, coordination and implementation of the treatment plan; discharge planning, maintenance of informative, accurate and timely documentation. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for supervision of the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).   Based on assigned unit/area, the occupational therapist could be involved in team meetings, family meetings, home evaluations, staff training and basic office duties/reports.  Treatment outside the hospital setting could include home.

 

All staff occupational therapists are required to keep current national registry and Missouri licensure, in addition to participating in continuing education and training of others.

 

The staff occupational therapist reports directly to the Director of Rehab.

Responsibilities

1. Evaluate patients/residents/clients and develop treatment plans with goals
measurable and functional.

 

2. Implement treatment plan or supervise COTA regarding implementation of
treatment plan.

 

3. Complete accurate and timely documentation based on the requirement of the
assigned unit/area.

 

4. Communicate effectively and professionally with team members,
patient/resident/client family members, social worker’s/case managers,
physicians and co-workers.

 

5. Participate in continuing education opportunities and provide training/learning
opportunities to others. Involved with student clinical.

 

6. Weekend and holiday rotational coverage is expected.

 

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Education:
  a.) Must be a graduate from a program of occupational therapy which is
      approved by the Accreditation Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

 

2. Licensure/Certification:
  a.) Current Missouri licensure.
  b.) Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

 

3. Work Experience:
 a.) Prefer 1-year experience for assignment to Home Health.
