Operates, maintains and repairs such equipment as boilers, pipes, pipe fittings, and fixtures, air compressors, pumps, reducing stations, traps, valves and heaters, gas and oxygen lines in areas that are renovated or constructed. The Boiler Room Mechanic assists with operation and maintenance of ventilating and air conditioning systems.
The Boiler Room Mechanic is responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of all heating, boilers, refrigeration and air conditioning systems throughout the hospital.
The Boiler Room Mechanic reports directly to the Assistant Director of Facility Services
1. Installs and operates the various types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC & R) equipment found throughout the hospital and associated properties. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance including trouble-shooting of HVAC & R equipment.
2. Programs and operates all control systems to insure the most economical operation while providing acceptable climate control to patients, staff and visitors.
3. Tests and treats water for HVAC & R equipment. Determine test results and treats water system in accordance with the hospital’s water treatment program.
4. Trains and supervises other Facility Services personnel when they are assigned work with HVAC & R or related equipment.
5. Ensures Emergency generators are maintained and logged per manufacturers recommendations.
6. Perform other duties essential to the operation of BRHC. (welding, metal fabrications, etc.)
7. Other duties as assigned by leadership.
1. Education:
a.) High School diploma required. Completion of an HVAC & R formal course of instruction or service school is highly desired.
2. Licensure/Certification:
a.) None
3. Work Experience:
a.) Minimum of five years’ experience at the journeyman level (education may be
substituted for some of the experience at the discretion of the director).
