Overview

The Regulatory Affairs Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Bothwell Regional Heath Center complies with all healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and applicable laws. This individual will work closely with various departments to facilitate audits, maintain compliance documentation, and ensure that the hospital meets federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of healthcare regulations and have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

1. Regulatory Compliance:
  a) Monitor and stay updated on changes to federal, state, and local healthcare regulations.
  b) Ensure the organizations policies, procedures, and operations comply with all applicable regulations.
  c) Assist in the development and implementation of compliance programs and initiatives.

 

2. Documentation and Reporting:
  a) Maintain comprehensive records of all regulatory activities, including inspection reports, correspondence with regulatory bodies, and compliance documentation.
  b) Prepare and submit required regulatory reports to appropriate agencies.
  c) Coordinate the timely submission of documents related to licensing, accreditation, and certifications.

 

3. Audits and Inspections:
  a) Coordinate and assist in internal and external audits and inspections.
  b) Ensure all required documentation is available and up-to-date for audits.
  c) Follow up on audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.

 

4. Training and Education:
  a) Coordinate training sessions for hospital staff on regulatory requirements and compliance.
  b) Develop educational materials to increase staff awareness and understanding of regulatory issues.

 

5. Interdepartmental Coordination:
  a) Collaborate with various hospital departments, including clinical, legal, and administrative teams, to ensure regulatory compliance across all operations.
  b) Serve as a liaison between the hospital and regulatory agencies, ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution of issues.

 

6. Policy Development and Review:
  a) Assist in the development, review, and updating of hospital policies and procedures to ensure alignment with current regulations.
  b) Recommend changes to policies and procedures based on regulatory updates or audit findings.

 

7. Accreditation and Certification:
  a) Assist in preparing the hospital for accreditation surveys (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  b) Ensure all necessary documentation and processes are in place to maintain accreditation and certifications.

 

8. Continuous Improvement:
  a) Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives related to regulatory affairs.
  b) Identify areas for improvement in the hospital’s compliance processes and suggest enhancements.

Qualifications

1. Education:
  a) Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.

 

2. Experience:
  a) 2-4 years of experience in healthcare regulatory affairs, compliance, or a related field. Experience in a hospital setting is highly desirable.

 

3. Knowledge:
  a) Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, including those from CMS, Joint Commission, and state health departments.
  b) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
