Overview

Becoming a CNA is a great job opportunity and for many a CNA role is a stepping stone toward a career in nursing or other healthcare areas. Those interested in a healthcare career may start out as a CNA to make sure they enjoy patient care, and to start learning how to interact with patients. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes cover a wide range of topics and skills, including patient care, medical skills, and ethics. These classes are typically 7-9 weeks long & conducted at the hospital. It includes a combination of classroom instruction and clinical training.

 

Here are some topics that are covered in a CNA class: 

 

Ethical/Legal Issues, Communication skills, diversity, rehabilitation/restorative care, infection prevention & control, safety/body mechanics, first aid/disasters, bedmaking/unit care, personal care, vital signs, nutrition, body systems, subacute care and end of life care.

 

Completion of knowledge and skills portion of class, ensures that students will be equipped to sit for the Headmaster CNA Certification knowledge/mock skill testing. The certification testing consists of a knowledge exam including 75 question that must be completed within 60 minutes. The mock skill testing requires 3 or 4 mock skills to be performed within 30 minutes or less. Each test must be passed at 80 percent efficiency. 

 

Responsibilities

After completing the 75 hour minimum classroom portion of the program, students will need to complete a minimum of 100 hours of supervised clinical training, which involves working shifts at the hospital.

 

To become a CNA, you need to complete a state-approved training course, pass a state certification exam, and be placed on your state's nurse aide registry.

 

Qualifications

A) High School Diploma or equivalent (must be 18 for our program)
