Overview

The Director manages the personnel and processes of the Pharmacy; oversees strict control, accountability, and monitoring of all medications and their safe use throughout BRHC and its owned facilities; carries out laws, regulations, and policies associated with personnel and the ordering, inventory, storage, distribution, use, and disposal of all drugs/medications; collaborates with individual physicians, P&T committee, and all other standing committees on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Assurance that all procedures of the pharmacy in the handling, dispensing, and record keeping of controlled substances are in compliance with State & Federal law.
  2.  Insures that labeling requirements are complied with, including the use of auxiliary labeling.
  3.  Maintain up to date reference library at all times as required.
  4.  Maintains and updates P&P manual to insure safety for the public concerning any action by Pharmacy staff members.
  5.  Oversees the maintenance of all appropriate certifications and licensure for pharmacists, technicians, and the general Pharmacy in accordance with State and Federal law.
  6.  Assures that all State and Federal laws are complied with considering distribution and control, and that no violations have occurred that would cause a drug or device to become adulterated or misbranded.
  7.  Maintains compliance of automated dispensing and storage systems with applicable State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations.
  8.  Oversees the development and monitoring of standing orders that contain pharmaceutical therapy.
  9.  Assures that the appropriate handling and disposal of controlled substances is done and verified through appropriate documentation.
  10.  Maintains understanding of the composition and properties of drugs, their manufacturer and uses, pharmacologic actions, and procedures for testing their purity and strength.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy with a BS degree required-MS in hospital Pharmacy or a PharmD degree preferred.

 

Licensure/Certification:

  •  Completion of Pharmacy internship, examination, and licensure as required by State Law, to include required continuing education requirements as directed by professional accreditation boards and maintain good standing in the state of Missouri or eligible for  reciprocity.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification. 

 

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ hospital experience as a licensed pharmacist.  Minimum 3 years’ hospital pharmacy management/supervisory experience
